Support
In December
2003, CSUSB's College
of Education launched
a new Literacy Center
to provide special
programs to K-12
children to improve
and enhance their
reading abilities
and meeting their
lifelong literacy
needs. The center
was funded initially
by a gift of $100,000
from Watson and associates,
a Seal Beach, Calif.
corporation that
is building homes
near campus. The
company gave an additional
gift of $100,000
to the center in
2004.
CEO James Watson says, "While there are an endless number
of good, worthwhile causes to support, literacy struck an especially
strong chord. Solid reading skills obtained at an early age are
one of the best means of ensuring a person's, the family's, and
the nation's future success. The literacy center is therefore one
of our company's proudest achievements. While it may seem a bit
outside our field, we look at it as a more powerful type of constuction
- one that builds and transforms lives." |
